Nias (the language of Nias Tanö Niha ) is an archipelago located to the west of the island of Sumatra , Indonesia , and administratively located within the territory of North Sumatra Province . The island is the largest and most developed island among the rows of islands on the west coast of Sumatra, inhabited by a majority of Nias tribes (Ono Niha) who still have a megalithic culture . This area has important tourism objects such as surfing, traditional houses, diving, fahombo (stone jumping).

This island with an area of ​​5,625 km² has a population of nearly 900,000 people.

The majority religion in this area is Protestant where 90% of the population embraces this religion, while the rest are Catholics , Muslims and Buddhists . Residents who embrace Islam generally reside in the coastal areas of the Nias Islands.
